Factors of 27

As an online presenter, you have a presentation coming up with a large group of 27 attendees. You want to make sure that everyone in the class not only participates but understands the information. Near the end of the presentation, you want each student to type in their answers to a short quiz.

However, as the answers are coming into the chat box, it will be difficult to check the answers if all 27 students are typing in their answers at once. Think about how you can divide the screen into sections.

Then a small group of the attendees can be working on the quiz, while the other groups are doing other things that don’t require the chat box. How could you get this done?

Then a small group of the attendees

Factors of 27 are 1, 3, 9 and 27

Below is a diagram showing how to find the factors by presenting you with options to find all of the factors. Using the diagram, you know from the green box that 1 and 27 are factors of 27 because all numbers have factors of 1 and itself.

Next, we need to know if the number is an even or odd number. Twenty-seven is an odd number, so 2 will not be a factor. It is an odd number, so we will try 3 to see if 3 is a factor. It is because 3 can evenly divide into 9 without having a remainder.

We now need to find 3’s factor partner. So, what times 3 will equal 27. That would be 9. So, 9 is also a factor of 27. Now, we need to look at the rest of the numbers.

TIP: However, here is a tip. Once you have the highest factor, which would be paired with the lowest factor, you only have to look in between that set of numbers. So, besides 1, 3 is the lowest factor for 27. Its factor partner is 9. That would be the highest factor, so we need to look in between those two numbers.

Four, five, six, seven, and eight are not factors of 27. Instead, they have a remainder if you tried to divide them into 27.
